Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data The Line collects, how it is stored, and what rights you have over it. We keep this simple and honest.

What We Collect

  • Account data: When you sign up, we store your email address and display name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account email and name.
  • Profile data: Your bio, avatar image, and any information you choose to add to your public profile.
  • Content: Threads, replies, and upvotes you create on the forum. This content is public.
  • Newsletter email: If you subscribe to the newsletter, we store your email address for that purpose only.
  • Technical data: Standard server logs — IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This is used for security, rate limiting, and abuse prevention. We do not use third-party tracking scripts or analytics services.

How It Is Stored

All data is stored in Supabase, a managed Postgres database hosted on AWS infrastructure in the EU (Frankfurt region). Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Data at rest is encrypted by the hosting provider.

Cookies and Sessions

We use a single session cookie set by Supabase Auth to keep you signed in. This cookie is necessary for the service to function. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

AI Content Review

Content you post may be sent to the Anthropic API for automated moderation review. This is used solely for safety purposes and is not used for training AI models. See Anthropic's privacy policy for details on their data handling.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties except as required to operate the service (Supabase, Vercel for hosting, Anthropic for AI moderation) or as required by law.

Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account. Account deletion removes your profile data. Public posts are soft-deleted (content removed, username replaced with [deleted]).

For other data requests, email richard@theline.to.

Children

The Line is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will announce them in the General Discussion category. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
